COACHES CORNER

COACHES CORNER: Men's Basketball Head Coach Darrick Mullins

We sat down with Head Coach Darrick Mullins to discuss his time at PCC, his thoughts on the upcoming season, and much more.  Check out his responses below.

Since your tenure as Head Coach began at PCC, you have amassed over 160 wins.  What would you say are the keys to building such a successful program?

"Wow I didn't realize that's where we were with wins. I would contribute it to administrative support with athletic funding for the program, developing the culture with solid building blocks, embracing the mission of the institution, staying true to my philosophy, hiring good assistants, recruiting, and relying on my family and mentors."

Every team needs great assistants and a great support staff.  What stands out to you about your current coaching staff and personnel that separates your program from others?

"We have a female Director of Basketball Operations; Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach; and an Assistant Coach that's served on all levels which displays a lot of diversity and willingness to assist our student athletes at Pitt Community College."

It's common knowledge that recruiting is a key to success at the college level.  What are some things you look for in a potential player and how have you been able to be successful in recruiting great players to PCC?

How well they can adapt and adjust to the college setting and deal with adversity as well as being coachable and confident in their current high school environment, whether in class or on the court. We also look for players who compete and challenge themselves while showing an earnest ability to excel in the classroom and on the basketball court during the season.

What are you most excited about regarding the upcoming season?

Competing for a Region 10 title, also hopefully post COVID-19 showcasing our Pitt Community College 2020-2021 recruiting class, while also assisting and developing them to become successful student-athletes and ambassadors of the college and community.
