Volleyball Takes First Two Matches

The Pitt Community College Lady Bulldog Volleyball program kicked off the 2017 season on August 26th traveling to Mid-Atlantic Christian University to compete against two non-conference opponents, Christendom College and Mid-Atlantic Christian University. The Bulldogs swept both teams during the two matches played, showing great promise for the season ahead.

Christendom College Recap (Pitt CC won 25-16, 25-18, 25-13)

The Bulldogs started play against Christendom College Crusaders coming off strong offensively in the match with the team earning 8 aces, 26 kills, and 35 digs to sore past Christendom College in 3 sets. The Bulldogs dynamic front line kept the Crusaders unable to stop sophomore Garrison Bowes and newcomer Hannah Sladick, both racking up 6 kills each The defense played aggressively ensuring balls did not hit the floor, with freshman Hannah Sladick and Lauren Farquhar collecting 9 digs each during the match.

The Bulldogs continued to show great improvement as the matches progressed and the team became more and more comfortable on the court together.

Mid-Atlantic Christian University (Pitt CC won 25-15, 25-14, 25-10)

The Bulldogs competed very well against the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Mustangs with a .250 hitting percentage, 9 aces, and 32 digs. This match provided great opportunity for quick ball movement by the Lady Bulldogs with sophomore Alexis Bynum hitting with a .727 percentage claiming 8 kills in the match. Bynum was followed up by freshmen Hannah Sladick with 8 kills, Calissa Parrott with 6 kills, and sophomores Garrison Bowes and Jordan Loreman with 6 kills each. Sophomore Kele Younger dominated the defensive line with 13 digs throughout the match.

The Bulldogs are back in action for the first home match on Tuesday, August 29th at 6 p.m. in the Coburn Center inside the Edward and Joan Warren Building on PCC's campus.
