BASEBALL DROPS HOME SERIES TO BRUNSWICK
Pitt took on conference opponent Brunswick Community College this weekend at the Minges-Overton Complex in a matchup that saw two nationally ranked teams go head to head. (BCC #11, PCC #12)
The Bulldogs were able to capture a 3-2 victory in Game 1 before BCC took games 2 and 3 by scores of 4-0 and 9-8.
GAME 1
PITT 3 BRUNSWICK 2 (11 INN.)
PCC starter Dylan Patrick was outstanding once again for the Dawgs. Two Bulldog sacrifice flys gave Patrick a 2-0 lead heading into the 8th in a game where he had allowed no hits. The sophomore was relieved by Will Liverpool in the 8th and the Dolphins were able to tie the game at 2-2. Noah Jones came on to pitch and held the Dolphins scoreless through the 11th. In the bottom half of the 11th, Trevor Losito led off with a single and Jensen Lapoint was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Anthony Saieed laid down a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away at 3rd base allowing Losito to score from 2nd to win the game.
GAME 2
BRUNSWICK 4 PITT 0
Despite a solid start from FR. right hander Kyle Mott, the Bulldogs came up short in game 2 falling 4-0. Mott worked into the 6th inning, recording 7 strikouts and allowing 3 runs. Branden Kunz came on in relief to finish the game. Despite recording 8 hits, the PCC offense was unable to capitalize and push any runs across the board. Tristen Kenyon, Trevor Losito, and Josh Netterville all recorded 2 hits a piece for the Bulldogs.
GAME 3
BRUNSWICK 9 PITT 8
Game 3 of the series provided better weather and lots of offense. Brunswick struck first in the 3rd inning pushing across a run to take a 1-0 lead. PCC answered in the bottom half when Josh Netterville scored on a wild pitch. Pitt starter John Owen put up a zero in the top of the 4th and back to back homeruns by Stephen Polansky and Jensen Lapoint made it 3-1 after 4. Brunswick tied the game at 3 in the 5th inning on a two run home run before Austin Lafollette snatched the lead back with a 2 run homer to make it 5-3 Pitt after 5 innings. Brunswick rallied to score 6 runs and Pitt trailed 9-5 heading to the bottom of the 9th. Trevor Losito blasted a 3 run homerun to cut it to 9-8 but the Bulldog rally fell short resulting in a 9-8 BCC victory.
Pitt (8-5-1) hosts Methodist Wednesday at 3:00 PM before traveling to Lenoir CC this weekend.
