Weekend sweep earns Softball #20 National Ranking

The Bulldogs had the offense all weekend to push them to get 2 gritty wins over #10 Florence-Darlington Technical College Friday night and completed a 4-game sweep of Wake Tech Community College on Saturday in two 5-inning games.

Despite giving up 3 runs in the top of the first inning of game 1, the Bulldogs were quick to bounce back as leadoff Taylor Carroll went yard to start off the bottom of the 1st inning. The Bulldogs would tie things up in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a score of 4-4 after Caroline Dorman singled to lead off the inning and Anna Craft singled on an infield bunt to put runner?s on 1st and 3rd with 1 out. Taylor Carroll gained a walk and with bases loaded Megan Latsko would also walk followed another walk by Erin McDonald pushing 2 runs across the plate.

Things stayed quiet offensively for both teams until the bottom of the 6th inning when Peyton Taylor would get the go-ahead runs to take the lead for good. With 1 out and 1 runner on, Peyton would stroke a lined drive over center field to take the lead to 6-4. The top of the 7th Pitt would retire the Stinger?s 1-2-3 to finish the game.

Game 2:

Taylor Carroll would again take the first at bat for the Bulldogs for a leadoff homerun. This time striking at the very first pitch seen in the at-bat. She would hit another homerun in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

The game would go back and forth until Pitt would unleash in the bottom of the 6th inning scoring 7 runs to solidify it?s lead and win the game 11-6. After Jayde Collins got things started with a pinch hit leadoff walk, followed by another walk to Summer Prevatte. With 2 runners on Taylor NIemotka would singled on a ground ball to the left side. Anna Craft would single on a short looper behind 2nd base to keep the inning going with no outs and a score of 6-6. Taylor Carroll would not get an opportunity to hit as she took a walk. Megan Latsko would come up with with a single to centerfield scoring Niemotka and Craft to put PCC in the lead 8-6. 3 more runs would come across after a single by Peyton Taylor, a walk by Haley Wright and a single by Taylor Niemotka. Headed into the top of the 7th inning Allie Phillips retired the last batter with a strikeout to end the game.

Peyton Taylor would lead the team with 3 hits going 3-4 followed by two hits from Megan Latsko, Taylor Niemotka and Taylor Carroll. Anna Craft and Erin McDonald would have 1 hit a piece.

Allie Phillips would earn the win for PCC throwing 7 innings, 10 hits, 6 runs, 3 BB?s and 5 K?s.

Wake Tech:

Game 1: 10-2

Game 2: 10-0

English Dean would take both wins on the mound against the Eagles. Pitching 10 innings, giving up 9 hits, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts and 2 runs. Highlights from the game included a homerun saving catch by sophomore Rebecca Walker; a homerun and 5 RBI?s by Taylor Carroll; and a double by Freshman Hannah Colflesh.

The Bulldogs would stroke 18 hits in 2 games, batting .360 as a team and staying patient at the plate taking 12 walks on the day.

With 3 conference games left to play, the Bulldogs currently sit in 1st place in Region X. They take on Southeastern Community College at home on April 20th at 3pm.
