Softball Sophomore Night

PCC Softball will recognize three outstanding Sophomores Friday night.  Allie Phillips, Taylor Carroll, and Stephanie Villalovos have been key players for the Bulldogs this season.

Allie Phillips

LHP / Fremont, NC

As a freshman appeared in 18 games and started 11 on the mound pitching 70.2 innings on the year.  She had a team leading ERA of 3.17 last season.

This season has appeared in 14 games and starting 9 of those. In 56 innings of work has a team leading ERA of 2.13 and conference ERA of 1.53.

"Allie was huge for us as a freshman last season as we were short staffed in the circle.  She won a crucial game for us to go into the Championship game for Region X last year and has really done well shutting big teams out this season.  She has shown great command of her pitches as a sophomore and has given us a chance to win every game she has thrown in."

Taylor Carroll

INF / Princeton, NC

Started every game as a freshman at shortstop and hit in the leadoff spot.  Was a force to be reckoned with at the Region tournament making defensive plays and going 8-17 at the plate with 2 doubles and 1 triple proving why she was selected as Player of the Year.

As a sophomore has started every game.  Currently leading the team in average with .438 and in second with an OB% of .523.

"Taylor has been pitched around all season long after her stellar freshman season.  To still be hitting .438 with the extra base hits and RBI's that she has is pretty phenomenal.  She continues to come in each day knowing she needs to work on something and just strives to get better.  She's a great teammate and leader by example and she's going to leave big shoes to fill for next year's returners."

Stephanie Villalovos

 RHP/INF - Orcutt, CA

Has a 9-3 record in the circle throwing 6 complete games including a 5 inning perfect game this season against College of Southern Maryland.  Has an ERA of 2.4 while striking out 70 batters and only walking 17.  At the plate has an impressive .455 OB% and is hitting .308 with 16 stolen bases.

"Stephanie stepped into our program when we really needed maturity and leadership.  She's got great softball IQ, will to win, competitiveness and is very self motivated.  She is a great vocal leader on and off the field and has really made a mark on this year's success."
