PCC Softball Splits with NC Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, NC -

The PCC Softball team traveled to Rocky Mount Sunday for a double-header against the NCAA DIII North Carolina Wesleyan softball team. Pitt dropped the first game long and troubling 5th and 6th innings. NC Wesleyan was down 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Peyton Hyler singled off of Allie Phillips, driving in two runs.

PCC lost despite out-hitting NC Wesleyan seven to six, and were just unable to produce anything at the plate after the 5th inning.

Logan Lowery earned the win for NC Wesleyan. She tossed five innings, surrendering two runs, six hits, striking out three, and walking one. Allie Phillips took the loss for the bulldogs. She went six innings, giving up 1 earned and 4 unearned runs, six hits, and striking out five

Game two was a much different story-- Sophomore pitcher, Peyton Taylor, didn't allow a single run as PCC defeated NC Wesleyan 10-0 in 6 innings. Taylor allowed just four hits and struck out Sierra Hayden to end the game.

PCC captured the lead in the first inning. Haley Wright singled on a 0-2 count in the first inning, scoring one run. The bulldogs blew the door open when they scored six runs in the sixth inning.The big inning was driven by a single by Megan Latsko, a single by Wright, a double by Caroline Dorman, and a double by Erin McDonald.

Peyton Taylor delivered on the mound and she earned the win and threw a complete game for PCC. She went six innings, allowing zero runs, four hits, striking out two, and walking one.

Game two totaled 14 hits for the Bulldogs. Dorman, Taylor Carroll, Wright, McDonald, and Latsko each collected multiple hits for PCC.

It was a huge day offensively for both Dorman and Latsko who went 4 for 6 on the day. Outside of actual hits, the Bulldogs had over 40 quality at-bats.

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday, February 21st against Louisburg College. The double-header is scheduled to start at 3pm.
