English Dean leads Bulldogs to sweep over Wake Tech

WINTERVILLE, NC - Sophomore English Dean held the Wake Tech softball team to just 2 hits in game 1 and 3 hits in game 2. The Bulldogs took care of business quickly winning both games in 5 innings with scores of 10-0 and 9-0.

Scoring began in the bottom of the 1st inning when Taylor Carroll reached base with a leadoff walk. Erin McDonald would hit a groundball out to score her from 3rd base.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning English Dean would leadoff with a ground ball single up the middle followed by another single by Haley Wright. Anna Craft drove in her 2 RBI's when she drove a ground ball up the middle scoring Dean and Niemotka from 2nd base. Taylor Carroll reached base again this time on a ground ball single to the left side and would later steal 2nd base and score on Megan Latsko's hit to centerfield making the score 5-0. Peyton Taylor stole the show when she blasted a 2 out homerun (her 4th of the year) to centerfield making the score 8-0 to end the 2nd inning.

The Bulldogs pushed 2 more runs across in the bottom of the 4th inning to seal the run-rule defeat. McDonald reached base with a leadoff walk, and scored on a hard ground ball error hit by Brianna Williams. English Dean drove in Williams after hitting a fly ball single to left field. The Bulldogs finished the game with 8 hits and 6 stolen bases.

The second game was no different other than waiting until the bottom of the 4th inning to push 7 runs across the plate for the Bulldogs after only scoring 1 run in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings.

McDonald drove in Megan Latsko, who reached base on an error, with a 1 out single to left field in the bottom of the 1st inning. In the bottom of the 2nd inning Taylor Carroll hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Taylor Niemotka who reached base earlier with a base hit.

In the bottom of the 4th the Bulldogs were able to capitalize on Wake Tech's errors. Taylor Niemotka and Caroline Dorman both reached base on back to back hit by pitches which would later turn into them scoring on an overthrow making the score 4-0 with Jayde Collins at the plate. Collins reached base with a slap infield single to the shortstop. Taylor Carroll and Megan Latsko both got on base with back to back walks making it bases loaded for Peyton Taylor. Taylor stroked a line drive to centerfield scoring 3 on the hit. She would later score on Haley Wright's single to left field. Niemotka had a sacrifice fly to left field easily scoring English Dean who was on 3rd making the score 9-0 heading into the top of the 5th.

The Bulldogs would finish the day with 15 hits in 10 innings and no errors in the field. They go on the road this weekend to play Richard Bland College on Saturday, April 1st and Patrick Henry on Sunday, April 2nd.
