Softball Takes 3 out of 4 from Surry

PCC hosted Surry Community College Friday March 3rd and Saturday March 4th. The Bulldogs took 3 of the 4 games as they began their Region X Conference debut.

On Friday, the Bulldogs took care of things on both sides of the plate very well. PCC outhit Surry in game one 13 hits to 2, and in game two had 12 hits to Surry's 4. Peyton Taylor, Taylor Carroll, and Taylor Lilley led the way having 4 hits on the night with Anna Craft having 3. Defensively the team committed 3 errors on the night but also included some spectacular defensive plays including a diving line drive catch by shortstop Taylor Carroll. PCC took game 1 with a score of 8-1 and won game two with a score of 6-1. Peyton Taylor earned the win in game 1 while freshman Allie Phillips earned the win in game 2. Both pitchers threw complete games.

Game 1 on Saturday started off rocky as the Knights pushed 6 runs across the board in the top of the 1st inning against freshman Allie Phillips. Sophomore English Dean went in to pitch innings 2-5, giving up 6 hits, 5 earned runs, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts in 4 innings of work. Offensively, the bats went dead for the Bulldogs as they got shutout in 5 innings of play. Brianna Williams, Summer Prevatte and Taylor Carroll were the only batters to have hits in the game.

Game 2 the Bulldogs bounced back immediately scoring in the first inning when freshman Taylor Lilley hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly to score Summer Prevatte. Sophomore Erin McDonald would later score on a throwing error by the Knights. Anna Craft had a big RBI double in the bottom of the 2nd inning to make the score 3-0 and with a sacrifice fly by Taylor Carroll they went in to the top of the 3rd inning leading 4-0. Peyton Taylor went yard for her first time of the year in the bottom of the 3rd inning after fouling off a pitch and breaking her bat; the next pitch she took a line drive to centerfield to for a solo shot to make the score 5-0. Haley Wright came in with an RBI double to score Taylor Lilley and Craft had a 2RBI ROE ground ball to end the 3rd inning with a score of 8-0. The bottom of the 4th inning was just as exciting as the Bulldogs hit 6 hits to score 4 runs. Sophomore Jayde Collins started things off with a pinch hit infield single. She would advance to advance to 2nd on Peyton Taylor's line drive to right field. Collins would come in to score on Taylor Lilley's RBI single up the middle. Taylor Niemotka kept things rolling with a hard ground ball up the middle to score Peyton Taylor. Sophomore Caroline Dorman came in clutch with a huge pinch hit double over the centerfielder's head scoring Taylor Lilley.

Peyton Taylor showed absolute dominance on the mound pitching 12 innings on the weekend only giving up 3 hits, 1 run, walking 1 and striking out 8 with an ERA of 0. Offensively she went 6-11 on the weekend batting .545 with 1 double, 1 homerun, 5 RBI's and 1 walk.

Anna Craft also had a spectacular showing at the plate for the weekend going 5-9 batting .556 with 1 double, 6 RBI's and 2 walks.

The Bulldogs are back in action this Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, SC.
