Softball Hosts Camp in honor of National Girls & Women in Sports Day
Feb 6, 2017

WINTERVILLE, NC - Saturday, February 4th the Pitt CC Softball team hosted the 12u Bandits softball team for a one day clinic in honor of National Girls & Women in Sports Day. The event is celebrating it's 31st anniversary this year with the main theme of the event being Expanding Opportunity. It was a great way to make an impact within our local community, and many of the girls from the 12u team are from surrounding Greenville communities that our own PCC softball players are from. For the team it was important to realize the value and influence they have just by being collegiate student-athletes. The team spent the morning teaching the girls basic and advanced defensive fundamentals and hitting fundamentals. The NGWSD celebration itself is of significance because of the opportunity it brings to young females.

"It recognizes the extraordinary progress sparked by Title IX and the ongoing effort to ensure access to sports for girls and women. Despite the legislation?s impact, only 40% of high school girls are currently playing sports, leaving three-in-five girls without the opportunity to compete."

"Research demonstrates that girls who play sports have better health, higher self-esteem, stronger leadership skills, greater academic achievement and economic opportunity. Let's work together through NGWSD to get these three-in-five girls in the game and expand their opportunities both in sports and in life."
