Feb 3, 2017

WILSON, NC - The PCC Bulldog softball team has a bright outlook after scrimmaging the Bulldogs of Barton College in 9 innings on Wednesday, February 1st.

Pitt made a statement in the first inning when freshman Taylor Carroll took a leadoff walk followed by another walk to freshman Allie Phillips. Sophomore Peyton Taylor lined an RBI single to left field and advanced to second base on the throw to home plate putting them up 1-0.

In the circle for the Bulldogs was freshman Allie Phillips who had an exceptional showing. In 6 innings pitched she would only allow 1 unearned run, 2 hits, 2K's and gave up 4 walks.

It wouldn't be until the bottom of the 6th inning that Barton would come back with an answer on an RBI single to put the score 1-1.

Things got very exciting when freshman Taylor Lilley had a pinch-hit at bat blasting a 2 run homerun to left field in the top of the 8th inning. The Bulldogs would score one more time in the top of the 9th after Summer Prevatte would hit a pinch-hit single to right field, and later score on English Dean's double to centerfield.

After 9 innings of play, PCC would outscore Barton 4-1. " I was extremely pleased with our team and their performance. We have some very minor things to tighten up but overall top to bottom we performed well; players coming in off the bench to pinch-hit or run and especially at the plate with quality at bats. They have set the standard high for the season, and I am very excited to see how they continue to grow throughout the season." - Coach Harp.

The Bulldogs host a double-header on Wednesday, February 15th against Louisburg College at 4pm and 6pm.
