Softball Extends Winning Streak to 14

Game 1 Pitt 8 – SMC 0 (5 innings)

Stephanie Villalovos took the mound in game 1 and threw her 2nd shutout on the season allowing 3 hits, 2 walks and striking out 6.  She held her own at the plate going 1 for 1 with 2 walks, scoring twice and a stolen base.

The Bulldogs pushed runs across in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Taylor Carroll to plate Stephanie Villalovos who walked earlier. 

Offense was led by Breanna Hardee and Allie Phillips who both went 2 for 2 at the plate.  Hardee notched a big line drive double to lead things off in the bottom of the 2nd inning

Pitt put things away in the bottom of the 4th inning.  Back to back singles by Hardee and Phillips and a walk to Morgan Shirley would load bases up.  Villalovos would also walk scoring 1 run.  Catcher Kelsey Peedin hit an RBI single to push the score to 6-0.  Meghan Pullicino and Roslyn Bunch finished up the inning both hitting sacrifices to push two runs across.

Solid defense behind Villalovos ended the game in 5 innings.

Game 2 Pitt 10 – SMC 2 (5 innings)

Allie Phillips picked up her 3rd win on the season in the circle holding the Pioneers scoreless until the top of the 4th inning.  Phillips threw 4 innings, giving up 5 hits, 1 earned run and striking out 2 batters.  Freshman Bethany Locklear would come in relief to earn the save in the top of the 5th inning allowing 1 hit, 1 earned run and striking out 2 batters.

Villalovos got things started in the bottom of the first inning with a solo homerun, her first on the season, to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.  Roslyn Bunch would come around to score off of a ground ball hit by Hardee in the bottom of the 2nd inning after hitting her 3rd double on the season.

The game was ended in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 5th inning. Villalovos doubled to lead things off followed by a walk to Peedin and Bunch.  Freshman Julia Gonzalez stroked a 2RBI double to left field putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with just 1 out. Breanna Hardee kept things going with a hard ground ball to the shortstop that scored 2 more runs to put the score 8-2.  Bethany Locklear took a ball deep left field for her 2nd homerun of the season ending the game with a final score of 10-2.

Game 1 Pitt 10 – Stratford 0 (5 innings)

Haley Rivenbark earned her 2nd win and the shutout against Stratford University in game 1.  She went all 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 4 walks and striking out 2.

Everyone in the Bulldog lineup managed to get a hit in the first game.  Meghan Moore, Kelsey Peedin, Morgan Shirley and Roslyn Bunch all led the team with multiple hits.  Moore and Shirley both hitting 2 doubles and each scoring 3 times.  Peedin and Villalovos both leading the team with 2 RBIs a piece.

Game 2 Pitt 6 – Stratford 0

Bethany Locklear earned the win in the circle game 2 as Allie Phillips earned the save.  Locklear threw the first 5 innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 4.  Phillips allowed 0 hits and struck out 1 in her 2 innings.

The Bulldogs scattered 11 hits in game 2.  Shirley, Peedin and Bunch again all had 2 hits apiece.  Bunch leading the team with 2 RBIs.

The Bulldogs had solid defense behind both pitchers in game 2; not allowing a single error in the field.
