Pitt Volleyball surges to 5 consecutive wins in Bulldog Classic.
Pitt Volleyball hosted their first home tournament on September 29th and 30th, the Bulldog Classic Volleyball Invitational. Five teams came from Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina to compete in a round-robin style invitational. Pitt came out victorious as the Lady Bulldogs took down each opponent over the weekend, including a Division I team (Spartanburg Methodist) and a nationally ranked Division III team (Sandhills Community College). Other teams who competed included Patrick Henry Community College, Northern Virginia Community College, and Surry Community College.
Over the course of the 5 games played on Friday and Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs racked up 26 service aces, 181 setting assists and kills, 28 blocks, and an outstanding 282 digs. Sophomore Kele Younger led the team with 26 service aces and 62 digs over the weekend serving as Libero for each match. Freshman Calissa Parrott led the team with 47 kills, followed by Younger with 61 digs, and freshman Hannah Sladick followed closely behind with 42 kills and 46 digs on the weekend. Sophomore Garrison Bowes earned 35 kills and 59 digs on the weekend.
The Lady Bulldogs played aggressively and challenged opponents playing thier best volleyball this season. "We are seeing great progress for this team pulling out incredible comebacks like the 12 point comeback against Spartanburg Methodist College in set 3 to win the match". Head Coach katelynn Speas. Bulldog Volleyball plays at home again on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 5 p.m. against conference opponent, Wake Tech Community College.
