Boyd & Riley Work Together in No-Hitter Win Over Bulldogs

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 2-25 overall, 2-18 in conference play after hosting Pitt Community College in the three-game series this weekend.

 

In game one, Richard Bland's two pitchers didn't allow a single hit, as the Statesmen defeated the Bulldogs 9-0 in game one of the series, Friday afternoon. Richard Bland fired up the offense in the first inning. Carter Jones drove in one on a single. Richard Bland tallied five runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to doubles by Myles Frazier, Nick Guerra, and Jones, a single by Kaleikaumaka Grebin, and a sacrifice fly by Matt Stevenson. Grebin, Frazier, Guerra, Jones, and Ashur Caraher all managed multiple hits for the Statesmen. Grebin went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense. Matthew Boyd got the win for Richard Bland. Boyd allowed zero hits and zero runs over five and a third innings, striking out eight. Gavin Riley threw one and two thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Riley struck out the final two Bulldog batters to end the game.

 

In game two, Richard Bland fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 5-10 loss to the Bulldogs. Pitt took the lead on a groundout in the second inning. Richard Bland racked up 13 hits in the game. Carson Herod collected four hits in the defeat. Herod homered in the second, singled in the fourth, singled in the sixth, and singled in the eighth. Darren Osborne took the loss for Richard Bland. The righthander lasted two innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out three.

 

In game three, Pitt took the lead on a home run in the first inning. Richard Bland struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Bulldogs, giving up 12 runs. Richard Bland scored three runs in the third inning. Richard Bland's offense in the inning came from a single by Carson Herod and an error on a ball put in play by Kaleikaumaka Grebin. Matt Stevenson went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Statesmen offense. Matthew Caldwell took the loss for Richard Bland. Caldwell lasted two innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out one and walking zero.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, April 5th in a single, nine-inning game. First pitch is set for 2pm.
