Bobcats Split Weekend With OT Loss vs Catawba Valley CC & Hard Fought Win vs Pitt CC
In this part of the season teams are starting to get into the bulk of their schedule facing familiar opponents and the matchups will only get more tough. Like this one, going into the weekend the Bobcats would be put to the test, facing teams they had already beaten earlier in the season. The first game 2/4/2023 vs the Catawba Valley Community College Red Hawks was their first test. Going into halftime the Bobcats trailed by just two (32-34) , both teams having success executing offensively. In the second half both teams had even more success offensively in which the Bobcats outscored the Red Hawks (50-48) in this high scoring affair and it was extremely close the entire contest, each team was able to gain a lead during moments in the game but neither team was able to sustain it. In the final minutes the Bobcats held a lead but a pesky Red Hawks defense was able to force turnovers and tie the game up at the end of regulation & force overtime tied at (84-84), the first overtime game of the season for both teams. In overtime the Bobcats counldn't contain the Red Hawks and fell (92-100) which is their first home loss of the season.
The Bobcats were led by #11 Kendall Bynum with a game high 31pts & 8ast, 4stl in what was an extremely efficient night for him only missing three shots on the game (10-13) from the field, (5-5) from three-point and (6-6) from the line & #10 Josiah Turner with 16pts, 4reb who shot perfect on the night (4-4) from the field, (1-1) from three-point & his only miss coming from the line (7-8).
In back to back games its important to have a short memory and get back in the win column & on 2/5/23 the Bobcats welcomed the Pitt Community College Bulldogs to their homecourt looking to have a short memory and have a clean sweep of the Bulldogs on the season. This game was familiar from the one as the day prior in the terms of a really tough matchup due to strong shooting. Going into halftime the Bobcats found themselves down six after a late Bulldogs run (31-37). Starting the second half the lead for the Bulldogs was erased quickly as #2 Caleb Walker rattled in three consecutive three-pointers to then take the lead for the Bobcats and change the narrative of the game. Throughout the second half the Bobcats led for a majority until the Bulldogs late push saw them take the lead and from then on the lead would change back and fourth until the Bobcats put themselves up three with twenty seconds left. The Bulldogs managed to get a three-pointer to fall with ten seconds left tieing the game up but thanks to #11 Kendall Bynum who drew a foul with three seconds left in the game (while in the bonus), the Bobcats came out with the victory as Bynum knocked down two free throws to secure the win (69-67).
