Softball Splits with Bulldogs

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 4-10 overall and 4-8 in conference play after hosting Pitt Community College Tuesday afternoon in a conference doubleheader.

 

In game one, Richard Bland snatched the lead late in the game in a 10-9 victory over the Bulldogs. The game was tied at nine with Richard Bland batting in the bottom of the sixth when Jayanna Richards singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Richard Bland built a five-run lead in the second inning. The offense came from a triple by Casey Hart, a single by Gracie Fisher, and an error on a ball put in play by Madison Nixon, then held off Pitt's charge. The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the failed comeback. The Statesmen racked up 13 hits. Fisher and Hart each collected three hits to lead the offense. Richards was the winning pitcher for Richard Bland. The righthander went two innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and walking zero. Jenna Nicolski threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Lily Curtis started the game for Richard Bland. Curtis went four innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits.

 

In game two, Richard Bland watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 1-9 loss to the Bulldogs. The Statesmen struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively, giving up nine runs. Shelby Godfrey led the Statesmen offense with two hits in three at bats. Jayanna Richards took the loss for the Statesmen. The righthander lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing 12 hits and four runs while striking out three and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next travels to Fayetteville Technical Community College on Friday, March 24th. The doubleheader begins at 2pm.
