CVCC men's hoops drops Region 10 opener on road to Pitt

WINTERVILLE, N.C. — Despite having four players scoring double digits, the Catawba Valley Community College men's basketball team fell to defending Region 10 champion Pitt Community College 81-75 in the Red Hawks' first conference test of the 2019-20 season.

Zach De La Cruz led the way for Catawba Valley (1-2, 0-1) scoring 16 points, while fellow sophomores Sal-Bey Young, Jahleer Black and Jonathan McFall scored 15, 12, and 11 points, respectively. Freshman Charles Bryson came off the bench to play 30 minutes and recording a team-high 10 rebounds and four assists.

Poor shooting proved to be the thorn in the Red Hawks' side in its six-point conference loss. CVCC made only 28.6 percent of its shots from the field and missed 16 free throws.

The Red Hawks take a lengthy break before their next game, which will again be against Pitt — this time on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Tarlton Complex. Tip off is set for 3 p.m
