Baseball Drops Series to Bulldogs

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 1-6 overall, 1-4 in conference play after traveling to Pitt Community College for the three game away series against the Bulldogs over the weekend.

 

In game one, the Statesmen suffered a 2-5 loss. Richard Bland got on the board in the second inning when Carson Herod doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Pitt took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth inning. Richard Bland totaled nine hits. Herod and Matt Stevenson each racked up multiple hits at the plate. Herod went 3-for-4 to lead the Statesmen. Codie Maitland started the game for the Statesmen and lasted four innings. Maitland allowed four hits while striking out two and walking one. Austin Dansey took the loss for Richard Bland. The pitcher allowed one hit and two runs over one inning, striking out one and walking zero.

 

In game two, the Statesmen suffered a 6-7 loss. Richard Bland fought back after falling down by five runs in the sixth inning. The late comeback attempt was not enough as the Statesmen fell just short. Richard Bland scored four runs in the failed comeback on a double by Nick Guerra and a single by Jamari Pooler. Ryan Martin, Pooler, Guerra, Carter Jones, Landon Scott, Dylan Bowen, and Kaleikaumaka Grebin each collected one hit to lead Richard Bland. Matthew Boyd took the loss for the Statesmen. Boyd lasted five innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out six.

 

In game three, Richard Bland fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 2-7 loss to the Bulldogs. In the second inning, Pitt got their offense started scoring one run. Richard Bland hit one home run on the day. Matt Stevenson went yard in the fourth inning. Jamari Pooler, Nick Guerra, Jacob Roy, and Stevenson each collected one hit to lead Richard Bland at the plate. Gavin Riley took the loss for Richard Bland. The lefty allowed six hits and five runs over four innings, striking out one.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Eastern Mennonite University JV on Wednesday, February 22nd at 2pm. The nine inning game will be played at Dinwiddie Sports Complex.
