Softball Goes 1-1 in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Pitt softball team traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC to compete in the FastPitch Dreams Classic tournament for what was supposed to be 6 games stretched over 3 days of play. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate as Sunday's 3 games were all rained out.

GAME 1 RECAP

Monday the team was able to get on the field to compete against Joliet Junior College out of Joliet, Illinois. The Bulldogs struggled to find any type of rhythm through 5 innings of play and the game was called due to unplayable field conditions in the top of the 6th inning, thus ending the chance for Pitt to spark any offense. Peyton Taylor took the loss despite only giving up 2 hits and striking out 5 batters. Allie Phillips came in and pitched 2.1 innings for the Bulldogs and gave up 3 hits while striking out 3. Haley Wright had the lone hit in the game, while Erin McDonald, Taylor Niemotka and Taylor Lilley were able to reach base on error.

FINAL SCORE: JOLIET 4 PITT 0.

GAME 2 RECAP

Tuesday the rain finally subsided early morning for the team to get a full game in against NAIA school Kentucky Christian. Kentucky Christian pushed a run across the board in the top of the 1st inning off of a defensive error. Bulldogs answered back with 4 of their own runs in the bottom of the 1st and against in the bottom of the 2nd inning and pushed another 3 runs across in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Pitt had 16 hits in the game. Wright, McDonald, Taylor Niemotka, Taylor Carroll, and Dean each collected multiple hits for Pitt Community College. McDonald and Wright each managed three hits to lead Pitt Community College. McDonald came up huge at the plate leading the team with 7 RBI's. English Dean earned the win for the Bulldogs. She threw five innings, giving up six runs, seven hits, striking out two, and walking zero. Allie Phillips threw one inning. Taylor recorded the last three outs to wrap up the final inning.

FINAL SCORE: PITT 12 KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN 8

The Bulldogs are now 6-6 and will host a Region X conference double-header on Sunday, March 19th at 11am against Patrick Henry Community College.
