Pioneers Recover in Time to Hand Bulldogs First Loss

PINEHURST—Pitt Community College managed to overcome a 12-point halftime deficit to lead late before Spartanburg Methodist College converted in the clutch to take an 80-75 victory in the "Region X Blast" at Sandhills Community College.

First-half shooting woes from behind the 3-point line left the Bulldogs trailing 40-28 at intermission. The second half was a different story, however, as PCC and Spartanburg exchanged the lead on six occasions.

Pitt led with 25 seconds remaining before the Pioneers made a key bucket and converted their free throws to give the Bulldogs their first loss of the 2014-15 season.

Led by Brannon Dark's 15 points, SMC had four players finish in double figures scoring.
Alfonzo Josey (17 points), Michael Williams (14) and Josh Cox (12) led PCC offensively.
For the game, the Bulldogs turned the ball over 22 times, were outrebounded 53-46, and shot just 6-for-28 (21.4 percent) from 3-point land in falling to 2-1 on the season.
