Four from PCC Softball Earn Postseason Honors

WINTERVILLE—Following a 28-16 season that ended Saturday with a loss to USC-Sumter in the Region X Conference Tournament, four Pitt Community College softball players have earned Region X Conference recognition for their play in 2016.

Hayes Moss, Taylor Niemotka and Peyton Taylor were named All-Region X Conference First Team. Moss, a sophomore, earned the honor as an outfielder, Niemotka as catcher, and Taylor for her infield play.

A freshman, Niemotka also earned All-Region X Conference Second Team honors for her efforts as a utility player and was joined on the second team by freshman pitcher Makayla Meeks. Moss was selected for Honorable Mention accolades as a utility player.

In 43 games played this season, Moss went 49-for-130 (.377 batting average) from the plate with 45 runs batted in and a team-high 53 runs scored. Of her 49 hits, 12 were doubles, three were triples and nine left the ballpark, including two in the conference tourney.

Niemotka took the field in 40 games in her first season as a Bulldog, batting .391 with a team-high 50 hits in 128 official at-bats, scoring 30 runs and knocking in 34 more. She tied with Moss and Taylor with a team-high 12 doubles and with Moss in triples.

Taylor, a freshman, led the Bulldogs in hitting with a .439 average (47-for-107) and a team-best 11 round-trippers. Her 49 RBIs were most on this year's squad and her 28 walks placed her second on the team, behind Moss's 29 free passes.

In her first season in the circle with Pitt, Meeks tallied a 7-5 record and 4.15 earned run average. She appeared in 14 games, including 12 starts and three complete games, and racked up 41 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings pitched.
