WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College was put in a solid defensive effort Saturday but it wasn't enough to hold off visiting Catawba Valley Community College.

Hosting the third match of a four-game home stand, PCC fell to the Buccaneers in straight sets, 25-13, 25-16 and 25-20, to go 4-6 overall this season, 1-3 in the Region X Conference.

"We played scrappy defense but just weren't able to put anything away on offense," PCC coach Caitlin Wooten said.

Anais Waldrop led Pitt defensively with 20 digs while Heather Lucas led the Bulldogs on offense with a team-high .263 hitting percentage and six aces to go along with two blocks.

PCC will take the Charles Coburn Center floor again Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. against Cape Fear Community College.
