VOLLEYBALL STAYS HOT WITH VICTORY OVER LOUISBURG

PCC Athletics partnered with AllState at Tuesday night's volleyball game to provide relief items to those affected by Hurricane Florence.  Fans, players, as well as parents and administration teamed up to bring supplies to members of the community who were impacted by the storm.   "I was proud of both our volleyball team and the PCC family for taking the initiative to give back to the community that has always supported us in times of need." - Athletic Director Dawn Manning.

Louisburg set the tone early in the 1st set, jumping out to a 16-11 before coach Katelynn Speas called an ultimately pivotal timeout.  "I told our team that we needed to pick things up our end and stop being lazy on the floor.  Louisburg was taking advantage of us in the center hole and we needed to step up and cover ourselves."  (Coach Speas)  The message had an immediate impact as the Bulldogs rallied to win the first set 25-21.

Pitt continued it's strong play through the 2ns set, winning 25-19 before dropping the 3rd set 25-22 in a hard fought battle.  The Bulldogs pulled away in the 4th set, emerging with a 25-17 victory. 

Carson Jones had a big impact on the victory, recording 9 kills, 0 hitting errors, 3 service aces, and 4 digs.  "Carson was outstanding for us tonight.  We adjusted our line-up to reflect Carson's strengths in the middle and right hide side hitting options."  KS

Due to the impacts of the hurricane, PCC was unable to practice leading up to the match.  "Considering we went 6 days without practicing, we played well. We had our weak times, but I am proud the team refocused and closed out a run from the other team to take charge of the momentum. We have a mentally strong team, and they showed that mental toughness is key in last night's win to advance us to a 5-1 record." KS

Pitt (5-1) heads to Hickory, NC on Friday to compete in the Region X-Travaganza Tournament, where they will play USC Lancaster, Davidson CC, USC Salkahatchie, and Catawba Valley.
