Fleming, Nicolski Lead at the Plate in Softball Loss

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 9-23 overall and 9-21 in conference play after traveling to Pitt Community College Tuesday afternoon for a conference doubleheader.

 

In game one, Richard Bland's bats were strong, but it wasn't enough as the Statesmen fell 7-11. Richard Bland opened up the scoring in the second inning. Emma Fleming drove in one on a single. Richard Bland notched three runs in the seventh inning on a rbi home run by Jenna Nicolski. The Statesmen racked up nine hits in the game. Fleming and Catherine Bodsford each collected multiple hits. Fleming went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the offense. Jayanna Richards took the loss for the Statesmen. The righty lasted five innings, allowing 11 hits and eight runs while striking out four and walking one.

 

In game two, despite a five-run deficit in the second inning, Richard Bland almost came all the way back, eventually falling 4-6 to the Bulldogs. Richard Bland scored four runs in the failed comeback on a home run by Jenna Nicolski in the sixth and a wild pitch for Shelby Godfrey in the seventh. Richard Bland tallied eight hits. Emma Fleming and Nicolski racked up two hits each to lead the Statesmen offense. Casey Hart took the loss for Richard Bland. Hart lasted six innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs while striking out three.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next hosts Fayetteville Technical Community College on Friday, April 21st in a 3pm doubleheader.
