Baseball starts season with a victory

Louisburg College baseball hosted Pitt Community College in the 2020 season opener at Frazier Field Wednesday. Louisburg prevailed 8-7 in the contest.

In the bottom of the first centerfielder Phillip Boykin singled home Jonah Beamon to put Louisburg out front. Neither team scored again until the top of the 6thwhen Pitt scored 1 run, only to follow it up with 4 more runs in the 7th.

In the bottom of the 7ththe Hurricanes were down 5-1 when DH Dawson Painter homered to centerfield. Right fielder David Cucci also hit a 2 run homer in the inning to make it a 1-run game.

However, Pitt scored once in the 8thand again in the 9thto stretch the lead to 7-4. In the bottom of the ninth, Louisburg scored 4 runs on a Pitt error to come away with the victory.

Louisburg threw 9 pitchers in the contest. Josh Swartz (1-0) came away with the win on 2 innings pitched, giving up 1 run on 3 hits and 2 strikeouts.

Louisburg takes the field again this weekend at home with a double header against Paul D. Camp Community College with begins at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
