Baseball defeated in Extra Innings

After an 8-7 win in the home opener against Pitt Community College last Wednesday, Louisburg College baseball travelled to Pitt this Wednesday. This time Pitt was the victor in extra innings; the score once again 8-7.

In the top of the 1stPitt scored the first run of the game on a groundout to second base. Louisburg's offense fought back in the next half inning with a homerun by left fielder Trendon Craig and a sacrifice fly by third baseman Matthew Cotter to plate Dylan Benton.

After a scoreless 3rd, Louisburg scored 3 runs in the top of the 4thon a ground ball to the left side, a passed ball, and a sacrifice to the pitcher. 

Louisburg had a 5-1 lead going into the bottom of the 4th. Pitt scored in the bottom of that inning, but the Hurricanes managed to get a run across in the top of the 5thto maintain the 4 run lead.

In the 6thhowever, Pitt was able to plate 5 Bulldogs to take the lead. Louisburg's starting pitcher, Tyler Hall, went 5.2 innings—giving up 4 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts.

In the top of the 7ththe Hurricanes were down one when Dawson Painter had an RBI double that allowed Trendon Craig to score for the third time.

For the Hurricanes pitcher Bradley Wilbourne had come on to get the third out in the 6thinning and held Pitt scoreless for 4 innings until the bottom of the tenth when Colby McLawhorn hit a walk off single up the middle to give Pitt the win.

After the extra inning contest tonight, the Hurricanes will prepare to take the field again this weekend for four games against Monroe Community College beginning at 1:00 Saturday at Frazier Field.
